This calculator was developed using the US Navy Body Fat Equation developed in the 1980s by the US Navy to calculate a sailor’s body fat percentage. Measurements are taken of the sailor’s height, neck, and waist (and hips on a female) and are then plugged into a formula.
For best results, take accurate measurements of your height (without shoes), waist, neck, and (for women) hips.
(These formulas provide an estimate of Body Fat Percentage. For a more accurate reading, consider a Smart Scale with Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis)
Take Control of Your Health with a Smart Scale
Unlike a traditional analog scale that only measures weight, Smart Scales can track a host of metrics: body composition (e.g., percentage of bone, fat, muscle, etc), heart rate, and more. Many connect to a smart phone app allowing for easy tracking of health progress. With a Doctor’s Approval, they also may be eligible for reimbursement from your FSA/HSA account.
